Snack Boxes for a Thai Housewarming Blessing

In Thailand, a housewarming usually means a merit-making blessing for the new home, with monks invited to chant and bless the house. The owners handle almost everything themselves: preparing the space, welcoming the monks, then looking after relatives. The busiest moment is when guests start to arrive, and having to plate up snacks on top of that makes the day heavier. Snack boxes take that job away. One box per person, and you simply hand them out. This page helps you choose sets according to who is coming and how the day is split into rounds of guests.

What kind of housewarming suits snack boxes?

They suit a house blessing with 50 or more guests where you are not serving a full meal. With fewer than 50 guests you will not reach our minimum of 50 boxes per order, and a smaller housewarming cannot order directly. Try combining with relatives or neighbours who are holding an event around the same time, or message the team on LINE to ask whether there are other options.

Most housewarming events fall into one of three patterns:

  • A small morning ceremony with monks and 15 to 30 close relatives, finished before noon (smaller than the 50-box minimum, so talk to the team first)
  • A morning ceremony followed by lunch for 40 to 80 guests, where snacks only fill the waiting time
  • An open house all day, with guests arriving at no fixed time, so snacks must be easy to hand out at any hour

Each pattern calls for a different set. If there is already a main meal, a small box is enough. If there is no main meal, choose a set that fills people up more.

How do you choose snacks for a housewarming by guest group?

Split the guests into groups first, then match each group to a set. You do not have to use one set for the whole event, since older relatives, neighbours and children do not eat the same amount.

Pastries can be mixed from the menu, up to 20 pieces of any one kind per order, and the team confirms the menu with you before preparation. Please tell them if many of your guests are small children or older people.

How do you split a housewarming into rounds of guests?

Follow the timing of the ceremony. There are normally three moments: before the ceremony, after the monks have eaten their meal, and when guests leave. You do not need fresh boxes for every round. Pick the moment when the most people are together and hand out once.

Example: a 60-person event with a morning blessing and a lunch.

  1. 10 relatives who help from early morning get 10 Best Seller Sets, which is ฿850.
  2. After the ceremony and before lunch, no boxes are handed out because there is a main meal.
  3. As the 50 guests leave, 50 Value Sets are handed out, which is ฿2,100.

That is 60 boxes and ฿2,950 before delivery. Place one order, have it delivered once, and keep the guests' boxes aside to hand out as they leave. This example is only an illustration of the arithmetic. Use the budget calculator with your own numbers.

For an event without a main meal, plan 1 box per person and add 5 to 10 percent for guests who did not tell you they were coming.

Can the snacks be offered to the monks?

We do not confirm that the standard box can be offered to monks, because every temple and every invited monk has different customs. The owners should ask the temple or the person coordinating first, then tell the team whether they want a set for offering.

In a housewarming order, always write two lines: the number of boxes for guests, and the number you want for offering. The team will tell you whether anything on the menu for that round is suitable. If nothing is settled, treat the boxes in the order as being for guests only. The same guidance appears on the merit-making snack box page.

How much should you budget for housewarming snacks?

The real budget falls between ฿42 and ฿85 a box, depending on whether there is a main meal and who the guests are. If your budget per person sits between two sets, mix the two sets instead of hunting for an exact figure.

Compared with buying pastries from several shops and plating them yourself, the labour and time you lose is often more than you expect. That comparison depends on each family, so count the time you would really spend before deciding. If you are worried about the budget per head, see the ideas in the budget guide.

What should you prepare for delivery to a new house?

You need a clear address, somewhere to park, a person to receive the boxes, and the time they should arrive. Many new houses are not yet pinned on the map, or are hard to reach on foot because of finishing work.

  • Send the team a map pin or a landmark near the house when you order.
  • Say whether a vehicle can enter the lane or the housing estate. Some estates require swapping an ID card.
  • Name the person receiving and a number that can be called when the boxes arrive.
  • Have the boxes arrive at least 30 minutes before the time you want to hand them out.
  • Prepare a table for the boxes in the shade, out of direct sun.

Our service area is Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, confirmed address by address. Delivery is not included in the box price and is charged by real distance, and the team tells you the figure before you confirm. More on the Bangkok delivery page.

How do you order housewarming snack boxes, and how much time should you allow?

Order at least 2 days ahead, because the team needs time to confirm the menu and the delivery slot. A house blessing often follows an auspicious time, and if that time is very early in the morning, message the team earlier still. There are rush options with a limited menu: order before 10:00 for 17:00 pickup or delivery the same day, or pickup within 4 hours. You need to ask about the queue first, and the team does not promise in advance. Payment in full is due before the delivery day, and a reduction in the number of boxes must be told to the team 48 hours ahead.

  1. Choose a set from the snack box sets page, or give the number of guests and let the team suggest one.
  2. Send the number of boxes, date, time, location and the type of event (housewarming) on LINE or through the quote request form.
  3. The team confirms the menu, delivery fee and total.
  4. You confirm, and the team prepares the order.

Pictures on this site are illustrations, and what you receive follows the menu round the team confirms. If your guests are from a company or a group of colleagues, you may also want to read about snack boxes for parties.

What to know before ordering for a housewarming

Snack boxes fit many housewarming situations, but a few limits are worth knowing before you place an order.

  • The minimum is 50 boxes. A small ceremony with 15 to 30 relatives cannot order directly, so combine it with another order or talk to the team first.
  • A box is not a main meal. It suits the waiting time and works as a small take-home gift. If you are serving a full meal, that food has to come from somewhere else.
  • Offerings to monks are not confirmed. Ask the temple first and then tell the team. If you are unsure, treat every box in the order as being for guests only.
  • Reductions need 48 hours' notice, and if the auspicious time is very early in the morning, message the team well before the 2-day minimum.
  • There is no allergy guarantee. Guests with allergies need to check the ingredients themselves.

Do you have snacks suitable for offering to monks?

We do not confirm this in advance. The owners should ask the temple what may be offered, then tell the team so they can check the menu. If nothing is settled, treat the boxes in the order as being for guests only.

Can you deliver to a housing estate or a condo?

Yes, within Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, confirmed address by address. Tell the team the name of the estate or building, the person receiving, and the entry steps, such as an ID swap or notifying the juristic office.

How much is delivery?

Delivery is not included in the box price and is charged by real distance. The team gives you the figure before you confirm the order. We do not quote a figure before knowing the address.

What is in the boxes?

The Value Set has 1 classic pastry and a 100 ml drinking water. The Recommend Set and the Best Seller Set each have 2 premium pastries, mixed savoury and sweet from the menu, and the Best Seller Set adds a 180 ml orange juice drink. The team confirms the menu with you before preparation.

What if some guests have a food allergy?

Tell the team before ordering what the allergy is. We cannot guarantee that the pastries are free of allergens, so a guest with an allergy should check the ingredients before eating, or you can prepare something else for that group.
