Snack Box for a Monk Ordination Ceremony

A monk ordination in Thailand runs on fixed times: the auspicious time to enter the ordination hall, the time of the procession, and the time the monks eat are all set in advance. Guests do not arrive on the dot. Some turn up before dawn, others ten minutes before the ceremony starts. A snack box for an ordination ceremony lets the host have something ready to hand out without anyone staffing a table. This page answers the two questions hosts ask most: when to hand the boxes out, and what to do about guests with dietary restrictions.

BreakHub bakes fresh for every order with no preservatives. Each pastry is in a clear sachet, every box has tissue, and the white box carries the BreakHub logo. Packing is included in the box price.

Which parts of an ordination can a snack box cover?

A snack box works while guests wait for the procession, while they wait at the ordination hall, and as they leave. Every temple and family organises the day differently. Some start before dawn and some mid-morning, but nearly every host wants guests to have something to eat without waiting.

A few features of an ordination affect the choice of pastry:

  • Guests arrive as families: Older relatives and small children often come along, so the pastry should be easy to eat and not messy.
  • There are long stretches on foot: During the procession, a pastry has to be something you can hold in one hand.
  • The weather is hot: This is especially true outdoors, where drinking water matters as much as the pastry.
  • A meal often follows: The box is a snack while guests wait, not a replacement for the main meal.

Guest snacks, ordination break boxes and ordination snack sets all describe the same thing here: an individual box for each guest.

When is the best time to hand out snacks at an ordination?

Two moments work best: when guests arrive at the gathering point, and when they leave. The main ceremony is not a good time, because guests should be able to focus and should not be holding anything.

MomentSituationHand out?
Before the processionGuests gather at the house or meeting point and wait for the procession to leaveYes, if the wait is longer than 20 minutes
During the processionWalking or riding in the convoyNot advised, since boxes are hard to carry, except drinking water
At the ordination hall, waitingGuests sit and wait while some of the men go into the hallYes, if the temple allows eating in the area
After the ceremonyGuests start to leaveYes, as something to take with them

Ask the temple first where food is allowed and where the boxes can be set down, because each temple has its own rules. We do not confirm those on the temple's behalf.

How many snack boxes should I order for an ordination?

Count the guests who have confirmed, then add 10 percent. Ordinations often draw relatives' friends whom the host did not invite directly. The 10 percent is a rough cushion, and you can adjust it based on how well you know your own guest list.

For example, a large family ordination of 120 guests, with a meal after the ceremony:

  1. 120 confirmed guests plus 10 percent is 132 boxes, rounded to 130 boxes.
  2. Close relatives and elders, 20 boxes on the Best Seller Set at ฿85, come to ฿1,700.
  3. General guests, 110 boxes on the Value Set at ฿42, come to ฿4,620.
  4. The total is 130 boxes at ฿6,320 before delivery.

If no meal follows, move to the Recommend Set at ฿70 or the Best Seller Set at ฿85 for guests who stay a long time. For example, 130 boxes × ฿70 = ฿9,100 before delivery. Try different numbers in the budget calculator to see which mix fits. For the general counting method, see how many snack boxes to order.

How do I flag guests' dietary restrictions at an ordination?

Tell the team when you order. The team checks what is on the menu for that run and says whether there is an option. We do not guarantee that any pastry is allergen-free or meets any religious dietary requirement, so guests with restrictions must check the ingredients before eating.

Restrictions hosts commonly run into:

  • Guests with food allergies: If someone is allergic to nuts, milk, egg or wheat, say which one when you order.
  • Muslim guests: We do not yet certify our products for Muslim dietary requirements. Ask the team what to do.
  • Vegetarian guests: Pastries in the box may contain milk or egg. The team tells you the menu so you can check.
  • Older guests who should avoid sweets: Tell the team so they can see whether that run has anything less sweet.

Which snack box set suits each group of guests at an ordination?

Choose by how long guests stay. The longer they stay, the fuller the set should be. Guests who only drop by for the procession can have the smaller set, while relatives who help all day should get a bigger one.

Guest groupPackagePrice per boxWhat is inside
Guests who stop by briefly, or want a drink in handValue Set฿421 pastry + 100 ml drinking water cup
Guests who already have drinks at the event and want 2 pastriesRecommend Set฿702 premium pastries, no drink
Close relatives helping out, elders who stay all dayBest Seller Set฿852 premium pastries + 180 ml orange juice drink

Small children who come with their families often cannot finish a whole box. If many children are coming, order a little fewer, or tell the team how many so they can advise. In hot weather, favour sets that have a drink inside the box. Menu items that work include Fresh Butter Bun, Pandan Custard Bun and Curry Chicken Pie from the classic menu, and Egg Tart, Butter Cake and Double Chocolate Croissant from the premium menu. The team confirms the list with you before preparing anything.

What do I tell you when delivering to the house or temple?

Tell us the delivery location, the time the boxes should arrive, who receives them and where vehicles can park. If you are delivering to a temple, ask the temple first whether a vehicle can enter the grounds. When the courtyard is full of guests' cars, a delivery vehicle may not reach the drop-off point.

  1. The arrival time you want, for example 07:00 if the procession leaves at 08:00.
  2. The venue name, the car park and where the boxes should go.
  3. Who receives the order, and a number that works when the boxes arrive.
  4. The box count per package, listed separately for any guests with dietary restrictions.

Some ordinations use two locations, the host's house and the temple. If you need two drop-offs, list them separately. The team confirms whether two stops are possible and what the fee will be. The service area is Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, confirmed per address, and delivery is charged by real distance, separate from the box price.

If the host's house is in Pathum Thani or Nonthaburi, see the area pages for snack boxes in Pathum Thani and snack boxes in Nonthaburi.

What to know before ordering snack boxes for an ordination

An ordination has times that cannot move, so know the limits of the service before you fix the handout time.

  • The minimum is 50 boxes per order: A smaller ordination cannot order alone. Try combining with another family event, or message the team.
  • Order at least 2 days ahead: A very early start or a rush order needs a queue check on LINE. A rush option exists with a limited menu, and the team does not promise it until it checks. See the rush order page.
  • Arrival time is not guaranteed: The time is agreed per order, so set it comfortably before the handout.
  • Reducing the box count: You need to tell us 48 hours ahead, otherwise the original count stands, and payment in full is due before the delivery day.
  • No guarantee on dietary needs: We do not certify products for Muslim dietary requirements and do not guarantee that anything is allergen-free.

How do I order snack boxes for an ordination?

You can order in four steps. Start at least 2 days ahead, with a minimum of 50 boxes per order. For a very early start or a rush order, message the team to check the queue first.

  1. Choose a package from the snack box overview, or give the number of guests and let the team recommend one.
  2. Send the number of boxes, date, time, venue, the event type (ordination) and any known dietary needs through the LINE order button or the quote request form.
  3. The team confirms the menu, delivery fee and total.
  4. You confirm and pay before the delivery day, and the team prepares your order.

Pastries can be mixed from the menu, with no more than 20 pieces of any one kind per order. Photos on the website are illustrations, and the real pastries are chosen from each set's menu.

Summary

BreakHub snack boxes for an ordination cost ฿42 to ฿85 a box, with a minimum of 50 boxes and at least 2 days of notice. The two handout moments that work are when guests are waiting and when they leave. Ask the temple where eating is allowed, and put guests' dietary needs on a separate line when you order. Delivery is charged by real distance and quoted before you confirm.

Once you know the auspicious time and the guest count, use the LINE order button or send the quote request form.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order for ordination snack boxes?

The minimum is 50 boxes per order. You can mix sets, for example the Value Set for general guests and the Best Seller Set for older relatives. Tell the team the split when you order. If you have fewer than 50 guests, message the team first.

When should I hand out snacks at an ordination?

Hand them out while guests wait, such as before the procession, and as guests leave. During the procession it is not advised, because boxes are hard to carry. Inside the temple grounds, ask the temple first where eating is allowed.

Can you deliver very early for the procession time?

It depends on the queue and the area. Tell the team the time you need and they check and confirm. Do not treat it as certain until confirmed, and the order must be placed at least 2 days ahead.

Can Muslim or vegetarian guests eat the pastries?

We do not certify products for Muslim dietary requirements or as vegan. Pastries may contain milk or egg. Tell the team ahead of time and they tell you the menu they know about, but guests must check the ingredients themselves.

How much is delivery to the temple or the host's house?

Delivery is not included in the box price and is charged by real distance. The team quotes it once they know the address. The service area is Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, confirmed per address.

Can you deliver to two places, the house and the temple?

Give both addresses, times and quantities in one message. The team tells you whether it can be done, with the fee. Do not assume in advance that two stops are possible.

Can I get a quotation before I confirm?

Yes. Request one through the quote form. The team gives you the menu, delivery fee and total before you agree. The documents available are a quotation, an invoice and a receipt.
