Coffee Break Catering: 5 Types of Shop and How to Choose
IllustrationThe phrase "coffee break catering" sounds like one kind of business, but in practice it covers everything from the neighbourhood bakery that takes advance orders to a hotel banquet room with a serving team. Prices, minimums and ways of working differ a lot. When people choose the wrong type, the problem is rarely that the pastries taste bad. It is usually a minimum that is too high for the event, a venue the shop cannot reach, or paying more than the event needs.
This page compares five types in the language of people who actually run events: which event each type suits, where it falls short, and where BreakHub sits, including what we do and what we do not do.
How many types of break caterer are there?
You can split them into five by how they serve. The table is a broad picture of what you usually find. Every shop has its own conditions, so always ask the shop directly.
| Type | Typical features | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| General bakery | Has a shop front, takes advance orders as an extra to retail sales | Small events, small numbers, easy to collect yourself |
| Thai dessert shop | Makes seasonal Thai sweets, good for events that want Thai flavours | Merit-making events, ceremonies, older guests |
| Caterer or coffee break buffet | Sets up tables, refills food, offers both snacks and hot drinks | Large seminars, events that need a serving point in the room |
| Hotel banquet room | Runs the break together with the meeting room, with a service team | Events already booked at a hotel, with the budget to match |
| Delivery snack box shop | Packs one box per person and delivers to the office or venue | Meetings, training and school events where nobody is needed to serve |
Notice that no type is better than all the others. It depends on how many people attend, whether you need someone to serve, whether the food must be delivered or you can collect it, and what budget you have. The rest of the page goes through the types one by one.
When a general bakery is the right choice
If you have a team meeting of ten to twenty people and the office is near a bakery you already know, a general bakery is the easiest option. Phone the day before, walk over and collect, pay cash, done. No quotation to wait for and no form to fill in.
The limit is that these shops are not set up for corporate orders. Some do not issue quotations, do not deliver, or deliver only within a short radius of the shop. If the event grows to sixty people, the shop may not be able to bake in time, because it is still selling over the counter. Always ask whether the shop takes large orders and whether it provides documents for your accounting team.
When a Thai dessert shop makes sense
Thai sweets such as layered steamed cake (khanom chan), golden egg-yolk threads (thong yip and foi thong) or small steamed cups (khanom thuai) suit merit-making events, monk ordinations, housewarming blessings and any event where the guests are older and used to Thai-style sweetness. Some ceremonies also have customs about which sweets should be served, and a Thai dessert shop understands that better than a bakery does.
The thing to watch is that many Thai sweets are moist or made with coconut milk, so they do not keep long in hot weather and are awkward to eat standing in a meeting room. If your event is a meeting where attendees take notes while eating, a pastry you can eat with one hand is easier. You can see the two compared in bakery or Thai snacks: which to choose.

Caterers and coffee break buffets
This is the format people usually picture when they say seminar coffee break. There is a long table with trays of several snacks, hot coffee and tea, and staff who keep refilling. The upside is that attendees choose for themselves and can go back for more. The downside is that it needs space for the tables, someone to look after it, and a price that often bundles several service charges.
It suits large seminars with a separate break room, or events with hundreds of attendees where you want the feel of a small reception. It does not suit a meeting where people just step out, pick something up and go back in, because the table-setting charge can be more than you need. If you are unsure which suits your event, read how a snack box differs from a coffee break.
Hotel banquet rooms
If you have already booked a hotel meeting room, ordering the break from the hotel is usually the most convenient, because the hotel team sets everything up in the room and there is no problem bringing in outside food, which many hotels forbid. Prices are generally higher than the other types because they include service and the venue.
The thing to watch is that some hotels require you to use the hotel's own break service when you rent a room. If you plan to bring in pastries from an outside shop instead, ask the hotel's banquet team first whether that is allowed and whether there is a fee for bringing in outside food.

When a delivery snack box shop fits
A delivery snack box shop works differently from the four types above, because there is no serving staff and no table to set. Snacks are packed one box per person and delivered to a pickup point, and each attendee takes one box. That suits meetings that must start on time, training where people eat at their desks, and school events where food is handed out in boxes.
The obvious benefits are easy budget control, since the price per box is fixed, and easy counting, since one person is one box. The limits are that there is no refilling, no hot coffee counter, and there is usually a minimum order that has to match the size of your event. BreakHub is this type. See the details of ordering on how to order a snack box.
Break caterer near me: how near is near?
People who search for a break caterer near me mostly do not want to walk to the shop. They want a shop that can deliver to their office at a price they can accept. So the two things to check are whether the shop delivers to your address and how the delivery fee is quoted, not how many kilometres the shop is from you.
A shop with a front near your home that does not deliver is useless when you have a morning meeting and nobody free to collect. On the other hand, a shop with no shop front that delivers to you and quotes the fee clearly may be far more convenient. Ask any shop these three questions.
- Is our address in the delivery area? Does the shop confirm address by address, or does it have a fixed list of districts?
- How is the delivery fee worked out, and is it given as a figure before you confirm the order?
- What limits apply at our building's pickup point, and what extra information does the shop need?
BreakHub has no shop front to visit. We deliver in Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, with the team confirming address by address, and there is no list of districts announced in advance. The delivery fee is not included in the box price, is charged by real distance, and is quoted before you confirm the order. If you are interested in an area, see the page for each province.

What BreakHub does, and what to know before ordering
So that you can compare us fairly with other shops, here is what we do and do not do.
What we do
- Sell snack boxes under the BreakHub brand, delivered in Bangkok and the surrounding provinces
- Three sets: Value Set at 42 baht per box (1 pastry + 100 ml cup of drinking water, chosen from a classic menu of 10), Recommend Set at 70 baht (2 premium pastries, no drink, chosen from a premium menu of 19) and Best Seller Set at 85 baht (2 premium pastries + 180 ml orange juice drink)
- Bake fresh for every order with no preservatives. Each pastry is wrapped in its own clear sachet, every box has a tissue, and the box is white with the BreakHub logo. Packing is included in the price
- Let you mix several pastries in one order, up to 20 pieces of any one kind, change or add drinks box by box, and the team helps fit a set to your budget or event over LINE, within the menu available
- Issue a quotation, invoice and receipt on request. See the quotation page
What we do not do
- We do not take orders under 50 boxes
- We have no shop front or branch to visit
- We have no serving staff, no buffet table set-up and no hot coffee counter
- Delivery is always charged separately, and the fee is quoted before you confirm
- We do not guarantee the food is safe for people with food allergies
- We do not offer custom branding or event-specific stickers on the box
- We do not promise delivery to other provinces, and we do not promise a fixed delivery time
The main terms: order at least 2 days ahead. There is a rush option for some pastries, which is to order before 10:00 and receive at 17:00 the same day, or receive within 4 hours of confirmation, depending on the day's queue. See rush orders. Payment is in full before the delivery day, and you can reduce the box count if you tell us 48 hours ahead.
Which type fits which event? Three examples
Try these three scenarios. A team meeting of 15 in an office close to a bakery: walking over to collect from the bakery will be quickest and cheapest. A merit-making event at a temple with 80 guests: if you want Thai sweets in keeping with custom, choose a Thai dessert shop that can deliver to the temple. A staff training session for 60 people at 9 in the morning, where food must be handed out in boxes and nobody is free to set tables: that suits a delivery snack box shop with a minimum of 50 boxes.
If your event falls into that last group and you want to compare detailed criteria before you decide, read the checklist at where to order a coffee break: a 9-point checklist, which applies to every type of shop whether or not you end up choosing BreakHub.
Once you have decided, choose the set and pastries on the order page and press the LINE order button, which copies your order summary for you, or fill in the quotation form. The team confirms the menu, delivery fee and time before you pay.
Summary
There are five types of break caterer, and the right one depends on headcount, whether you need serving staff and whether the food has to be delivered. For under 50 people who can collect, a bakery near the office is usually simplest. Ceremonies with Thai customs suit a Thai dessert shop. For meetings and training of 50 boxes or more with nobody to serve, BreakHub delivers at 42 to 85 baht per box, with the delivery fee quoted by distance and confirmed before you order.

Frequently asked questions
How many types of break caterer are there?
There are five: general bakeries, Thai dessert shops, caterers or coffee break buffets, hotel banquet rooms and delivery snack box shops. Each suits a different event size and style of service. Choose by headcount, whether you need serving staff and whether the food must be delivered.
How near does a break caterer need to be?
Distance from the shop matters less than whether the shop delivers to your address and how it quotes the fee. BreakHub has no shop front, but delivers in Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, and the team confirms address by address.
Which type suits a meeting that has to start on time?
A delivery snack box shop suits it well, because the snacks are packed one box per person, with no table to set up and no wait for servers. Attendees pick up a box and go straight back into the room. Set the delivery for before the start with some margin, but the time is agreed order by order and not guaranteed.
Does BreakHub have a shop front I can visit?
No. BreakHub takes orders by LINE and the quotation form and delivers in Bangkok and the surrounding provinces. The delivery fee is not included in the box price and is quoted before you confirm.
What is the minimum order at BreakHub?
The minimum is 50 boxes per order. You can mix several pastries, up to 20 pieces of any one kind. Under 50 boxes we do not take it as a normal order, so try combining several events or ask the team about options.
Which type should I pick for an event of fewer than 50 people?
A general bakery that takes advance orders and lets you collect is usually a better fit, because the minimum is lower. If you need delivery, ask the shop whether it can take the quantity you need and whether it provides documents for your accounting team.
Does BreakHub deliver to other provinces?
The service area is Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, confirmed address by address. Other provinces are handled case by case and we do not promise in advance. Send the address to the team to check before you tell guests that snacks are coming.
